WESTERN BAY OF PLENTY DISTRICT COUNCIL VOTES 'YES' TO MAORI WARDSWestern Bay of Plenty District Council has voted 'yes' to getting Maori ward representation. Councillors voted today 9-3 to establish one or more Māori wards to enable Māori representation around the council table in the 2019 and 2022 local body elections. Today's decision follows a unanimous vote by the council's Tauranga Moana/Te Arawa ki Takutai Partnership Forum earlier this month recommended the move. Margaret Murray-Benge, Kevin Marsh and Mike Lally were the three councillors who voted against the idea. Murray-Benge said she intended to challenge the decision with a poll...... www.nzherald.co.nz/bay-of-plenty-times/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503343&objectid=11946321COUNCIL AND IWI TO LOOK FOR WHAT'S BEST FOR TAUPO DISTRICTTaupo District Council has chosen not to establish Maori seats and will instead look for alternative options alongside the district’s iwi. At an extraordinary meeting today, the Council voted unanimously to investigate other options, remaining focussed on identifying what works for the Taupo District. Mayor David Trewavas said the Council had looked to what other districts had done and as a result identified a real opportunity to better engage with Maori in the Taupo District going forward. "Elected members have also met with our iwi partners and discussed the co-design of something special, which considers our existing touch points, our new post-settlement space, and the potential for a great partnership.".... www.voxy.co.nz/national/5/298171

FROM A CITIZEN WHO WAS IN ATTENDANCE AT THE WESTERN BAY of PLENTY DISTRICT COUNCIL VOTE ON MAORI WARDS
What a bloody circus to say the least at the council meeting on Maori Wards, Western Bay of Plenty. I stomped out of there in a temper at the end.
The council have had 4 days of brainwashing by Maori. Today there was heaps more of it, talking in Maori then video and presentation by Maori. They have reinvented the meaning of the word Democracy it doesn’t mean: government by all the people, through elected people.
It now means a wishy washy collection of people that can represent their tribe and what they want [didn’t seem to include any other race]. We who are talking like me are out dated and haven’t moved on with the new movement!!!!
Funny how people like Myself were allowed 3 mins each to make our point and yet Maori waffled on for hours! I got told to sit down at one point. Then the council were asked to vote and they voted for Maori wards 8/ 3. This isn’t the final voting and we are pushing for a Pole, because this is only Maori who have had a say.
So I’m afraid folks Democracy doesn’t exist anymore, they have changed the dictionary meaning of the word!

Great work to actually have the guts to stand up to these brainwashed bullies. I applaud you! I know what it's like to do this as I have also done it and been made to think I am behind the times and something is wrong with me. The sense of self importance, the sense of expectation, the sense of entitlement, the pure racist greed possessed by these people would make most people cringe with embarrassment ....but not these thugs. Where to from here? I have often likened the current situation to the movie "Planet Of The Apes" where we non-maori are second class but without rights as we serve our lords & masters in a rather pitiful existence. It's definitely coming, but at a slow rate so as not to be noticeable by the average kiwi apologist. Slowly slowly catchy non-maori.
