RACISM
To argue against free speech (which is tantamount to placing a restriction on free thought) on the basis that it may offend some who identify as maori is itself a proposal for racism.
What is needed is more effort in strengthening anti-fragility within public discourse so we can actually call out racism without eliciting a triggered response that anyone that does so is racist themselves.
Basically we need to grow up and understand that the asking for, or requiring, preferential status on the basis of race is almost a dictionary perfect definition of racism.
Most maori simply get on with their lives like most kiwis do - but some of the elites, in cahoots with their self-berating colonial liberal descendants, seem hellbent in dragging us into a new dark age of apartheid because they see a pecuniary advantage for themselves.
They cloak themselves under the banner of 'righting the wrongs of their reimagined history' but we have a more modern term to identify them: smug reverse racist assholes.
