THE AUCKLAND PLAN 2050
I (Dr Muriel Newman, New Zealand Centre for Political Research) have been contacted by people concerned about the Auckland Council's plan - especially the focus on enhancing the authority of Maori as Treaty partners, so they are actively involved in decision-making and in the management of natural resources through more co-governance arrangements.
If you are concerned, why not put in a submission by March 28 - for details click the link below.
The Auckland Plan 2050
All questions are optional but we will ask for your feedback on:
1. An Inclusive Auckland
2. Advancing Māori well-being
3. Affordable homes
4. Transport (moving easily around Auckland)
5. Environment (protecting and enhancing our environment)
6. Equipping people for future jobs
7. Shaping our growth
8. Any other feedback
1. An inclusive Auckland... Focus area 4: Recognise Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi as the bi-cultural foundation for a multi-cultural Auckland
2. Advance Māori well-being - To help you answer this question, read about the focus areas in Māori identity and well-being in the Auckland Plan 2050.
Question 2 - The strengths and contributions Māori bring to Auckland will fuel economic growth and advance Māori well-being. With nearly a third of all Māori in Auckland aged under 15 years old, the Auckland Plan proposes investing more in tamariki and rangatahi to advance Māori well-being....
• Focus area 1: Meet the needs and support the aspirations of tamariki and their whanau
• Focus area 2: Invest in marae to be self-sustaining and prosperous
• Focus area 3: Strengthen rangatahi participation in leadership, education and employment outcomes
• Focus area 4: Grow Māori inter-generational wealth
• Focus area 5: Advance mana whenua leadership and decision-making and provide for customary rights
• Focus area 6: Celebrate Māori culture and support te reo Māori to flourish
• Focus area 7: Reflect mana whenua mātauranga and Māori design principles throughout Auckland
Do you think the seven focus areas identified in Māori Well-being and Identity will achieve this? etc
Outcome: Māori identity and wellbeing
