Dear Editor, (Sent to The Press 16/10/18) I know that I am pale, male and stale, as ridiculed by at least one female MP, but it does seem to me that decorating the Christchurch City Library with a swarm of Maori labels is nothing but the nonsense of wet-eared liberals and earnest do-gooders. They must be blithely ignorant of the fact that Maoris had no written language, no books, no libraries and so no words for any of these. Hence we have now the artificial word “puka’ for “books” while in my day as a resident of Diamond Harbour, the branch library there was labelled “kete wananga”, its derivation being, I suppose, “wisdom basket”. Cute, eh? But just so juvenile! BRUCE MOON, Nelson sites.google.com/site/kiwifrontline/letters-submitted-to-newspapers/unpublished-letters
