A CALL FOR HELPThe High Court’s first ‘priority’ claim under the Marine and Coastal Area Act is for a stretch of coastline in the southern Hawke’s Bay from Whangaehu to Cape Turnagain - see CIV-2011-485-789 here > tinyurl.com/y8dgpnu8 It’s being claimed by the Clarkson whanau, who say they have used the area exclusively and continuously from 1840 to the present day. Six other tribal groups have claims that overlap with the area as well. The approach taken by the Judge in this first, precedent-setting High Court case, will be CRUCIAL. If there is little opposition to this claim and they give away control of the coast to the claimants, then the rest of our coastline will be under serious threat. We would urgently like to make contact with people who have a good knowledge of the claimed area, so if you, or anyone you know is familiar with the coastline, please let us know by emailing claims@nzcpr.com Thank you for your help.
