MAORI SALUTATIONS NOT ACCEPTABLE
M L Q writes > I have lately been in contact with various Government Departments. I felt obliged to register an objection for how the replies were worded.
It will be interesting to see the response.

Dear Mr XXXXXX
Thank you for your response to my inquiry under The official Information Act.
While I await for the information I require, I would point out that my request was in standard English International Business format.
I was taught that when writing a letter, the correct salutation is
"DEAR SIR/MADAM, or the PERSONS NAME"
Kia ora is not acceptable.
Likewise to end a letter, the correct form is "YOURS SINCERELY"
Again, nga mihi is not acceptable.
I am neither maori nor a student of maori.
Assessing the contents, I will assume you have a perfect command of the English language.
Thank you,
Yours sincerely
