COUNCILLOR 'ASHAMED' TO SING MĀORI VERSION OF NATIONAL ANTHEM FAILS TO ATTEND MEETING TO APOLOGISEA controversial New Plymouth councillor who said he was "ashamed" to sing the te reo version of the national anthem did not attend a meeting at which he had agreed to make a public apology. But Murray Chong, who was on his way to Wellington when the New Plymouth District Council held its extraordinary meeting on Tuesday afternoon, said he had already said sorry for his comments.
