Waikato Times 27/3/19 NAME CHANGE PROPOSAL It is to be hoped that any proposal to change the name of Grey St will go the same way as that of changing the names of North and South Islands; it is the first step on a very slippery slope. It is but a very short step to putting Greymouth and the Grey River in the firing line. Let us not forget that historical violence is not solely a pakeha phenomenon; Parihaka pales into insignificance when compared with the genocide of the Moriori by southern Maori tribes. FRANK BAILEY, Hamilton Gisborne Herald 26/3/19 TITULAR VIEW Anne Salmond’s comments on equality have left me somewhat puzzled. She has accepted the title of “Dame” and is addressed as Dame Anne. Surely knighthoods and dameships are leftovers of the class-ridden society of Britain, and reinforce the notion of inequality among people. As such, the titles feed into the idea of the supremacy of certain people. Not very kind, just or equal. A case of the pot calling the kettle purple I think. C.J.
