MĀORI INPUT ESSENTIAL FOR NZ MARINE CONSERVATION - US PROFESSORProfessor Gary Libecap of the University of California says not including indigenous peoples in environmental affairs is a mistake. "If you really wanted to protect the resource for the long term you really want to involve everybody who knows a lot about it, who has a great stake in it and not including indigenous peoples is an error." Tuuta says, "We're hopeful that moving forward these sorts of discussions would begin between Treaty partners around how things should move ahead."..... www.maoritelevision.com/news/national/maori-input-essential-nz-marine-conservation-us-professor

Thanks to maori cannibalism, we are not able to include "indigenous" peoples in any environmental affairs. And with maori's track record in conservation (all the many species of Moa, Haast Eagle, Huia etc), it is best for any endangered species that maori input is ignored. Remember they still want to eat the endangered Wood Pigeons and almost wiped out the Kiwi, as well as being caught over and over with undersized Paua etc. Maori are to conservation as a stoned drunk driver is to road safety.
