IT IS NOT HATE TO CHALLENGE & QUESTIONAni O’Brien’s thread on twitter is very relevant to the push back against the pervasive promotion of te ao Maori. It is not hate to question & challenge a belief system that impacts on our rights. We live in a secular democracy & our laws & governance should be protected from influence of religious & ideological interest groups. I do not hate Christians or Muslims for example but I do not want them to be able to impose their particular belief systems on the law & governance of NZ. I support their right to their beliefs & I assert my right to a lack of religious beliefs. None of this is hate. We can live in a society that accepts & supports difference without preferentially legislating for certain belief systems. We must have a foundation of agreed facts based on reason & logic & justness to operate as peaceful society. Challenging new ideology which redefines core aspects of everyone’s existence is not hateful. How we organise society is everyone’s business. Our politicians should be facilitating these conversations not shutting them down. So don’t be afraid to be firm & assertive. Your rights are your business. It is not hate to challenge & question. Attacks on your integrity are deliberate attempts to silence you. You know your values; you know your truth. Solidarity xx twitter.com/aniobrien
