The scheme aims to fast-track Maori aged 23-25 into governance roles. It was proposed by a number of Auckland iwi groups and is backed by organisations including Auckland Council's Southern Initiative, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development. "Auckland is on the brink of Treaty [of Waitangi] settlements.
