WHAT ABOUT MAORI LANGUAGE?
D H writes > The dangerously distorted and toxic narrative between Maori and European - is at the heart of New Zealand’s very dangerous social problem - and it is a problem that could soon turn to violence - and this has been allowed to happen because we reached a point in our evolution where fear of being called racist - trumped reality - and we can no longer speak truthfully.
That single sentence embodies a very big area of discussion for all new Zealanders - and we are going to have to bite the bullet soon and have it - but we need to get our ducks in a row first.
But just think - they are now trying to legitimize the Mongrel Mob.
Our New Zealand children - European and Maori - are being encouraged to believe things that not only have no semblance of historical truth - but in fact are flat out lies.
To compound that - constant cries of racism are preventing discussion - and skewing the reality. What happened to Paul Goldsmith in our House of Representatives last week - was a classic example of that.
We have to find new ways of talking about this.
For Example. How racist would it be if we Europeans called for all the Maori Place Names to be changed to English so people could know what they meant?
Would that be racist - or unreasonable?
That's what they are doing to us.
We have got used to all the Maori names - but really - who knows what they all mean. So against that reality - is giving them all these things going to help anyone learn to speak Maori? Never worked before - so why will it work now?
Is it not racist to want to change all the English Names so only one percent of the nation knows what they mean? And what about what it does to our history?
It devalues it and sidelines it - racism all day long!
So what about this sudden use of so many Maori words and greetings being shoe horned into the English Language on TV? Are we expected to believe that was spontaneous? Or - was that a suggestion - or an order perhaps? - - - We have evidence now that it was an order - and that the creepy media are being literally paid millions to do it. And it came around the time of a 55 million dollar gift to the information and so called, “News” sector.
Had that been discussed and agreed upon before we heard about the 55 million? Of course it had. Minister Kris Faafoi traveled the country holding meetings in all news agencies and made it super plain. Do as we tel you and push Maori to the front of everything - or no money. I thought that was what happened - and now I know.
It all happened too fast and too smoothly - and also because the broadcast television model is in decline - failing - because like it or not the model is changing to live streaming - and Tic Toc and other platforms because TV as we once knew it is on its last legs.
Thank God for that.
So now that we have changed the language format in our TV and Radio News - and we are creating an English Maori hybrid language - what about this? What if we insisted that the Maori News preceded every statement or sentence spoken in Te Reo with English greetings - and sign off every sentence with an English salutation? Would that pollute and damage the Maori language and change the way it is heard and spoken - - by the very few who can actually speak it?
Would that be disrespectful of the Maori Language? And if it would be - is it not disrespectful to English as well - to do the same thing to it? English - our mother tongue - is one of the great global languages - of commerce and industry - and diplomacy - science - literature and the arts. Should we treat Maori language with more respect than English - a language spoken by billions in all fields all over the planet?
And in fact - would Maori language really be damaged, when we consider that the greatest number of Maori words - are alliterations - derivatives of mispronounced English words - and have been made up since the beginning of the eighteen hundreds, so that Maori can have words and ways to express and understand the many European concepts and all modern objects, processes and lifestyle?
What's the Maori word for TV remote?
What’s the Maori name for phone - and for all the other things that a phone does these days - and what are the social implications of that?
Well - sorry - but any Maori version of that has all been made up - had to be - in the last 200 years. Just has. We need to stop pretending.
But we have to face the reality: English - for us and ninety nine percent of Maori - is our mother tongue - just is. It is a global language - and what we are attempting to do to the New Zealand version of it will make it unintelligible, or at the very least - difficult to understand in the rest of the world.
A weird hybrid - unintelligible anywhere but in New Zealand. So instead of saving Maori language - we will have damaged both - and our children and their future along with them.
Will we produce a new generation of New Zealanders who will not be able to read, write and enjoy most of the world’s great literature - because our version of English will have become a weird hybrid language - neither Maori nor English?
What about tourists trying to understand their way around New Zealand signage - do we expect them to Learn Maori before they come here?
What about new immigrants who have taken the trouble to learn some English?
It already baffles me - and I was born here.
We have to remember - that our children - Maori and European - have to compete in an English speaking world - and that includes the most important market of China. Chinese kids are all learning English. Like it or not - the West is in decline - and China is on the rise - and we should be preparing our youth for that - not teaching them to speak a language that has zero standing or understanding outside New Zealand - and not much of a standing with the general population here either.
Oh - didn’t like that? Well the numbers speak volumes - only 50,000 people out of 5,000,000 'claim' they can converse in it. - - - - Look it up. - - - - One percent.
Why are we doing this when only one in twenty or thirty Maori can speak or understand their own language to a degree where they can conduct an everyday conversation in it.
That's like 5%.
So what about this sudden use of so many Maori words and greetings on TV?
It annoys the hell out of me and I just don’t watch any more. I just sit in bed with my laptop on my knee and headphones on - and I just graze the internet and facebook live - and generally follow my nose around the globe. I have no need of New Zealand TV any more - and the constant barrage of things Maori just moved me on. Bye bye Kiwi crap TV. The world outside is much bigger - and you have NOTHING - that I want anymore.
- - - - And why have we allowed this situation to develop to the point where an honest man can get up in Parliament and make an entirely true statement about Maori and their position in the GLOBAL society - and have him shouted down and shamed before the entire Parliament - - and the Nation?
Why?
I consider THAT - a day of shame that will haunt this very substandard crop of Parliamentarians. I was deeply ashamed of them - they should be ashamed of themselves.
This is about force feeding a language that has not been learned by its own people - into an entire unwilling population. Including many immigrants who are struggling to learn English.
Why has TV one and TV 3 suddenly got so many Maori and Pacifica presenters? Is that not the result of a racist decision? Or did a whole lot of talented Maori and Pacifica turn up on their doorstep looking for jobs? Of course not - that was a decision based on race and a new direction driven by 55 million dollars.
Why can’t we just be honest and know that and say that?
