GROUNDSWELL NZ IS LASER FOCUSED ON STANDING UP FOR FARMERS, FOOD PRODUCERS, CONTRACTORS, TRADIES AND COUNCILS AGAINST UNPALATABLE AND UNWORKABLE RULES BEING THRUST ON THEM BY CENTRAL GOVERNMENT.
1. The National Policy Statement on Freshwater should be scrapped. Attaining Fresh water guidelines should be the jurisdiction of Catchment groups in association with Regional Councils. Pomahaka catchment group proves this approach works.
2. Big stick regulations for Significant Natural Areas, Wetlands, Landscapes etc should be scrapped and funding should be directed to proven successful systems like the QE2 Trust. 180,000 Hectares has already been placed in protection by landowners. This approach works. The Government regulations are a Land Grab and Private Property Rights must be protected.
3. National Policy Statement on Indigenous Biodiversity should be scrapped. This policy punished those landowners that have been proactive in conservation, turns biodiversity into a liability and wastes $million on tick box significance assessments. Councils should be able to work with and support the many landowner initiatives such as QEII Trust, Landcare and Catchment Groups. Another Land Grab and Private Property rights must be protected.
4. Overseas seasonal rural workers to be prioritised through MIQ for rural contractors, Horticulturalists, Dairy Farmers and Fruit picking. These sectors are doing the heavy lifting for the NZ economy, now more than ever and the mental strain of continuous long hours and product loss is becoming unbearable. These categories are to stop being called “unskilled labour” and referred to as skilled manual labourers, which they are. Support NZ small businesses.
5. The “Ute Tax” to be withdrawn as there is no alternative electric vehicle and they are essential to those economic heavy lifters Farmers, Horticulturalists, industry support people and Tradesmen. Another Financial Burden.
6. Climate change, another unworkable policy that is seeing large areas of farmland being incentivised into pines and a significant cost burden borne by the worlds most emissions efficient farmers.
7. High country legislation – Crown Pastoral Land Reform bill another big stick layer of regulation being applied to our high country farmers over and above existing council regulations.
