RECLASSIFICATION OF EXPORT MĀNUKA HONEY MAY BREACH TREATY OF WAITANGIA looming change in how mānuka honey is classified is being challenged as a breach of the Treaty of Waitangi with a claim Māori were not consulted. The change in classification is being pushed through by the Ministry of Primary Industries in a bid to rid the highly lucrative trade of inferior honey. But it could also reduce export earning by millions as honey currently classified as mānuka could be downgraded to bush honey, which does not attract a premium price....... www.stuff.co.nz/business/100688921/reclassification-of-export-mnuka-honey-may-breach-treaty-of-waitangi
