.........Insofar as it is genuine, the MAORIS SENSE OF GRIEVANCE, OR GRIEF, is associated with their particular relationship to the iron necessity of world evolution - which has nothing to do with anyone but themselves - and lies too deep for any dispute over land / resources etc, to possibly reach.
Whatever made it the destiny of Maoris to live so long in these islands, in such complete geographic and social isolation, and at such a primitive level of existence, EUROPEANS HAD NO HAND IN IT.
It was simply the task of Europeans to gather New Zealand and the Maoris into the modern world.
TO DO THIS THEY HAD TO LIVE HERE; AND TO LIVE HERE THEY FIRST HAD TO HAVE LAND, ASSUME CONTROL AND IMPOSE LAW AND ORDER.
In New Zealand today, the mixed race descendants of the old time Maoris have been equipped with the language, education, skills, technology, and legal right to stand in the modern world on an equal basis with anyone.
Although such a concept is foreign to tribalism, this is the deeper meaning of colonisation / civilisation - AND WHAT DEMOCRACY IS ALL ABOUT.
