RACISM AT WAIPA COUNCIL - By Candid
The Onset of Racism. (Waipa Council working with iwi to select reps??)
I recently read an article in the Cambridge News headed “Council working with iwi to SELECT reps onto their council” and pay them a rate of $185 plus mileage for each committee meeting???
To select reps?…whatever happened to democracy and the right of individuals to be selected by VOTES not from pure selection!! This action is only helping to develop a division within the NZ community and alienate white New Zealanders from Maori, as if there isn’t enough racism being displayed in NZ at this time with all the funds GIVEN to Maori for, so called past removal of their land.
Maori are NOT the indigenous people of NZ and no longer should be getting away with dominating and pressuring successive governments to hand out wrongful funds from taxpayers funds. When will Maori stop living in the past and start working for their present and future instead of depending on handouts?
Just like this article, council members and govts are elected from a community voting public so Maori should not be allowed to enter either govt. or councils without putting their representatives up during the voting period and winning seats during the due process of national and regional council elections. If they, or anyone for that matter does not win a seat, then no one should be given the right to sit in govt or council purely by race and non-election. Due process has taken place and the people have spoken. After that there should be no room for unelected people to sit in any area of govt.
The Mayor of Waipa should have been taken to task for his undemocratic actions in this respect. Last year the Mayor of Hamilton arbitrarily attempted to change the name of Hamilton to the Maori equivalent name. His proposal was voted against and rejected unanimously and rightfully so.
Mr Waipa Mayor you should put your action of non elected Maori individuals to the people of Waipa to see if they agree with your actions and not take it as an individual right to put your proposal to small section of the community, ie your council members.
There are already undercurrents and newspaper responses to this action, (read the article headed above in the Cambridge News which says you don’t represent the entire community in this action!!)
The people in Waipa put you there to represent them!!…Do your job!!
There are many races in the Waipa district. If this is the action you’re going to take then you should also include unelected reps from, the Chinese, European, South Africa, Middle East, Irish communities, (and there are others)….it’s called proportional representation; all of whom have a right to be included and heard. What are you doing to make them visible??
This is the right way to develop undercurrents similar to other divisions appearing around the world….people demonstrating for their personal rights…not being governed by dictatorships where ever they come from.
THE PEOPLE MUST BE HEARD AND ALL INCLUDED IN ANY DUE PROCESS !!!
WE’RE NOT RACISIST WE JUST WANT A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD FOR ALL !!!
