BEWARE THE TERM ‘WHANAU’
G L writes > Whanau (noun): extended family, family group, a familiar term of address to a number of people - the primary economic unit of traditional Māori society. In the modern context the term is sometimes used to include friends who may not have any kinship ties to other members. Maori Dictionary on-line, accessed Jan 15, Feb 23 &24, 2020.
Whanau does not mean family. It refers to the core collectivist economic unit of traditional Maori society, better known in Western philosophy as communism. ‘Whanau’ opposes individual property ownership, denies law of contracts, negates return for individual effort in favour of communal wealth distribution, etc.
The term is being promoted by TVNZ.
Given the Government seem set to support illegal Maori protesters at Ihumatao erode the law of contracts and deny legal owners due legal process, are we to assume that TVNZ is colluding with the government to ‘soften up’ citizens and enable a shift in the fundamental economic base of NZ from private enterprise to collectivism? Is this shift to presage Maori collectivism as the driver of social and economic policy? Bearing in mind the West has been there done that, it failed. Or, are we to assume TVNZ naïve and incompetent? Either way, can we trust them?
