HOLD TARANAKI MAORI TO ACCOUNT
D S writes > Maori, being the great navigators of the Pacific, surpassing even the abilities of James Cook, needed an English ship for a short trip to the Chatham's to make war on an unarmed peaceful people.
Something does not add up here, something I personally should not be paying for.
A better idea would be to gather up the so called descendants of the Taranaki Maori involved and charge them with crimes against humanity.

Maori were not great navigators. They arrived by winds, current & weather. Remember...they did not have any way of measuring time, angles, distance, speed. No latitude or longitude, no maps or charts, no numerical system, no written language, no letters or alphabet, no idea the earth was not flat etc etc. I have been to a maori navigation lesson and the whole thing was so flawed, it was hilarious. I asked the lecturer after the course, what was a "maori nautical mile" and he said "1852m I suppose". When you think about that....they didn't have meters, nor a numerical system....and if they did, what's the chances it would be base 10? I laughed all the way home!
