P R writes > ARE MAORI EXEMPT FROM THE LAW?
This is what our Police Commissioner said at his latest briefing, if people don't comply with the lockdown measures that came into effect on Wednesday, police have the authority to detain them and "put them somewhere that will allow them to contemplate their decisions".
Serious breaches and prolific breaches will be prosecuted. Bush said obstructing police, for example, could result in three to six months in prison.
Going by the actions of failed MP Honi Harawira and his cohorts in Northland I take it Maori are exempt from these breaches or so it would seem as no Police action has been taken.
Is there one law for Maori and another law for the rest of us in this country because this seems to be the case. My question to our PM and our Police Commissioner is if we the majority adhere to the law and self-isolate as is now required WHY is nothing being done to remove this illegal roadblock in Northland.
We all want to keep ourselves and our families safe but allowing private citizens to take the law into their own hands puts us all at risk and makes a mockery of our legal system.
