A R writes > HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED.....in 2011 the trailer (image below) owner was told not to park it on the roadside anywhere in the Rodney district or it would be impounded/confiscated - and yet here we have Harawira and his thugs blocking roads and displaying a treasonous flag with the endorsement of Council and police?
BACKGROUND ON THE BILLBOARD TRAILER
The billboard was put together on the trailer in early 2011 to help build awareness of the 'Marine and Coastal Area Bill' being pushed through by the National government with John Key and Chris Finlayson being the main pushers of the Bill.
Dr Muriel Newman founder of ‘The New Zealand Centre For Political Research’ could see back then that if the Bill was passed it would open NZ’s coasts up to tribal Maori claims, Key & Finlayson said “there would be few claims, the test was too high for the claims to be successful and very little of the coast would fall into Maori ‘ownership’” – here we are today with approx 580 overlapping tribal claims that cover the entire coastline of New Zealand.
To date, two out of the two claims that have been processed have been successful for the Maori claimants.....
In an effort to prevent the MACA Bill from being passed, around 2010, Dr Muriel Newman along with Dr Hugh Barr formed the ‘Coastal Coalition’ movement and then instigated a Citizen’s Initiated Referendum, sadly this referendum only managed to gather approx 280,000 valid hard copy signatures when approx 340,000 were needed at that time. The CIR ran for a year (regulations) and during that particular year there were a few unfortunate distractions, the Christchurch earthquakes, Rugby World Cup, and the Elections. The MACA bill was passed in 2011.
The trailer was regularly driven and parked on the roads between Rodney and Auckland (before the warning) as a means of creating public awareness. The Coastal Coalition also ran newspaper adverts and had large billboards in prominent positions throughout NZ.
