IT IS CALLED RACISM
B S P writes > Over the last few weeks there has been a country wide campaign called "Give Nothing to Racism".
This campaign rightly calls on all Kiwis to reject racism in all it's forms.
At the same time we have the New Plymouth council voting to set up Maori Wards at the next local election(2022), as well the Wellington Regional council has said that it too is looking at the possibility of setting up Maori Wards in the 2022 elections in Wellington.
As you can imagine, many votes are not happy with these plans, in New Plymouth and Wellington. It is likely that a referendum will be call for, to over-ride these plans.
Now we have a group calling for the law to be changed, so the voter can not stop council's setting up race based Wards.
My question is? How is this possible? How can people think one thing and do the complete opposite?
They call this "doublethink", a process of a conflicted mind.
On the one hand the "Human rights commission" promotes a campaign to reduce racism and at the same time council's are promoting racism.
What a funny world we live in.
But it is not funny, it is a very serious problem.
A problem that if left unchallenged, will damage our democracy for years to come.
Democracy is a system of government where by the people elect the government.
This is based on equality of voters, all votes having one vote.
You can have electorates or Wards (local councils), based on areas or districts. But when you use race as a bases, it is called racism.
The division of people, based on their race. It is very clearly wrong. They say they want better representation of Maori. Great, I am all for better community representatives from all groups. But is setting up an apartheid political structure really the way to do this? - No it is not.
Maori are New Zealanders, they have all the rights as other New Zealanders. They can vote, stand for election, just like every other person. So why do they need a special Maori Ward? - They don't.
These council's are promoting the politics of racial division and trying to corrupt the democratic process.
As for those that want to remove your right to stop council's, by way of referendum. They are deluded and misrepresenting the situation. In 1986 the Royal Commission on Electoral reform recommended NZ adopt MMP, they also recommended ending the Maori electorates. But vested interests meant they continue till to day. The same will happen with Maori Wards, they will be hard to remove.
Once a right/privilege is given, it is nearly impossible to take away.
