BACKLASH
P C writes > Good afternoon Prime Minister & Associates,
We have recently celebrated the success of our Olympic and Para Olympic teams. Not ONE of them was adorned with the words Aotearoa and nor should they be. Not a squeak out of those who proclaim a name change from New Zealand.
We continue to celebrate Anzac Day proudly and with larger crowds each year to remember those that fought for our freedom. That very same freedom you now seek to legislate us from.
We very recently congratulated ourselves for the anti apartheid protests that supposedly went some way to change a regime in a country 14,000 kms away and now you are passing into law in NZ the very same measures we stood against.
I am semi retired. I have NEVER witnessed so many hilariously funny (but equally disparagingly hostile) jokes and cartoons of you and members of your aligned parties even dating back to Muldoon days. Don’t you get it?
We have the 3 Waters issue before our respective councils right now. It seems clear most are opposed. Why? Perhaps it’s not passing locally owned assets to the Crown as it is the lopsided share of those assets falling to a minority (15%) of the population. Don’t you get it? This is NZ not Aotearoa and the rest!@!!
Covid. Against the cost economically, to small and large businesses, to tourism and to those Kiwis (remember that term?) that want to come home for Xmas have you considered the escalating costs in mental health, suicides, bankruptcies, legal fees etc that you have imposed because you are knee jerking and entire country day-by-day from one emergency to the next. You seem not to have paid attention in the business studies class where it was taught the “failure to plan = planning to fail”
My grandfather on my Dads side came back from WWI with a leg missing. He was not quick enough into a fox hole. I never met him. My mothers father came back from WWI with a bullet lodged in his calf muscle that we played with as kids. It was considered too risky to remove in on the battlefield. I was lucky. My Dad served in Italy and thereabouts in WW II and came home unscathed (on the outside anyway) Many did not. Their names are inscribed on countless memorials all over NEW ZEALAND! And rightly so.
Prime Minister you are destroying a once proud nation where we “got along” and lent a hand to anyone needing it. You are dividing us by race and it’s just not bloody going to happen. I do not know who you are bowing down to. Perhaps it’s the UN, maybe the Chinese, possibly the Māori caucus or it could even be Helen Clark who somehow never wants to slip away gracefully. Does she still have an office in the Beehive?
Please take heed. Kiwis are an “easy come, easy go” kind of people (you have lost touch with that I see) much the same as our cousins in Ozzie. You are about to push us all too far and the backlash will be like nothing you have seen in your short and obviously inexperienced lifetime.
Address you ego issues (there are professionals who can help) Address the fear you feel so deeply and that too can be addressed. Have the guts to stand up to whoever is pushing your buttons and tell them to go away. Use stronger language if you feel it is appropriate.
It's almost too late - Your call.
