‘OPPORTUNITY FOR PURPOSEFUL CHANGE’: GISBORNE COUNCIL UNDERGOES HEARING FOR MĀORI WARDSGisborne District Council is one step closer to introducing Māori wards at the next election, provided it gets its way with the Local Government Commission. On Thursday the council underwent a robust hearing before the commission, which is now tasked with making a decision by April 10 on whether the changes will be allowed.
