NEW ZEALAND’S EDUCATION SYSTEM
B P writes > Firstly we need to stop constant reference to race.
No one has any idea how Māori is defined any more.
Is a student with a distant Māori family connection included?
Is he or she (or whatever other variety of sexual definition) included?
It is an insult and extremely patronising to generalise that “Maori” are in some way disadvantaged. All are bi or multi racial anyway.
It must be far, far harder for immigrants from Asia and other countries but they are driven and encouraged to succeed and do so despite having to do so in another language.
Please stop this constant move to the lowest common denominator even though it is clearly a great advantage to the ‘left’.
Encourage those students of ability and those who really want to study!
Get back to a sound education basis and teach our young to think, question and research.
Stop racial ‘propaganda’ being inserted into the school curriculum.
Let students know when they are failing and provide assistance. These young people need a reality check to fit them for life. Ensure that all have a sound knowledge of English as the Lingua franca.
The Māori language should be an option but not compulsory / sadly that language has absolutely no use either in New Zealand or internationally.
Maybe it is time for a complete clean-out and the employment of sound skilled educators in the Education Department and resistance of ‘political’ interference.
We seem to be moving towards indoctrination rather than education, particularly under our present ‘government’.
