DEMOCRACY ACTION – SUBMISSIONS ON THE WATER SERVICES ENTITIES BILL.
Dear xxxxx
The Finance and Expenditure Committee received A WHOPPING 88,324 WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS on the Water Services Entities Bill. Great work, fellow citizens!
Oral submissions begin in the Hawkes Bay next Monday 15 August. 2022
We are very disappointed to find out that the Select Committee is living up to its name by being selective about which submitters are invited to make an oral submission. According to the Chair of the committee, Barbara Edmonds, THE FOCUS IS ON ONLY HEARING FROM THE FOLLOWING:
* Territorial authorities
* Mana whenua
* Rural water entities
* Water sector stakeholders
* Employment representative groups
* Environmental representative groups
* Financial representative groups
* Those who have made specific recommendations for improving the bill.
If you are one of the chosen few and would like advice on making an oral submission, please see the Government’s Talking to a select committee page > www.parliament.nz/media/9081/talking-to-a-select-committee-easy-read.pdf
I also recommend the following helpful tips:
* Provide any supplementary submission electronically to committee staff prior to the hearing or bring 15 copies of any supplementary submission to the meeting.
* As the format for the presentation of oral submissions varies between committees, I suggest you arrive early and observe other presentations.
* When it is your turn, introduce yourself to the committee, and anyone who may be appearing with you. All communication with the committee should be addressed through the chairperson.
* Make your presentation concise, as you will be allowed only 5 minutes to present your arguments, (10 minutes for groups).
