P T writes > ENGLISH IS THE NATIONAL LANGUAGE OF NEW ZEALAND. It is the language of education, of medicine, of engineering, of international diplomacy, commerce and economics, it is the language of the law. It is the language of international negotiations, it is the language of communication. … and plenty more.
It is the first language of today’s feel-like Maori, the language they were brought up in.
New Zealand’s official languages as declared by the government are like official government envelopes. It’s virtue signalling. It’s a shallow commitment to the use of sign and the survival of te Reo.
Te Reo will never be our national language.
I celebrate that our national language doesn’t have to be accorded the label “official” to encourage use.
