UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO APPOINTS FIRST DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR MĀORILegal scholar Professor Jacinta Ruru (Raukawa, Ngāti Ranginui) has been appointed to the new role, which was established to lead the Māori academic agenda at the tertiary institution. Ruru was the first Māori woman to be recognised as a fellow of the Royal Society Te Apārangi, and Aotearoa New Zealand’s first Māori professor of law.
