‘IT’LL STICK WITH US FOR GENERATIONS’: NGĀTI HAKO RELIEVED MAUNGA BATTLE WON’T BE APPEALEDHauraki iwi Ngāti Hako is elated Waste Management NZ has chosen not to appeal last week’s Environment Court decision blocking any new landfill development on their maunga, Te Rae ō te Papa at Tirohia. Instead, Waste Management NZ wants to build a relationship with the iwi. In another decade or so, the existing landfill pit will reach capacity and be covered over. “What they want to do is establish a relationship with us, with Ngāti Hako, with a view of the dump probably going up until 2038. You know, try and have some kōrero with them around [that] the dump-off would end one day.”..... www.teaonews.co.nz/2024/04/04/itll-stick-with-us-for-generations-ngati-hako-relieved-maunga-battle-wont-be-appealed/
