WANANGA SETTING OWN VALUE ON NAMING RIGHT The country’s three Maori tertiary institutions can now apply to call themselves universities, but the head of Whakatane’s Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi says it won’t change the way they operate. Wiremu Doherty says having an alternate title may help it attract overseas students who want to pursue an indigenous education. He says wananga have developed their own ways of doing things, rather than waiting for the university sector to put a seal of approval on what can be taught. "Maori are no longer interested in having their world view portrayed and described through somebody else’s set of values and principles. We want it explained, defined on our own knowledge, on our own theoretical structures, and on the own structures we are yet to create..... www.waateanews.com/waateanews/x_story_id/MTg3Njc=/Wananga-setting-own-value-on-naming-right

"indigenous education" but maori are NOT indigenous as their stories about coming here on their canoes and being met by fair skinned people already here, suggests. Also, that phrase "maori world view" is sneaked in again as they never had a world view. They were stoneage cannibals who ate, murdred and enslaved each other. Wiped out species of birds, never had a numerical system, or alphabet, never even figured out the wheel and were on the verge of self destruction. This is complete lies by a bunch of marxists trying to make maori feel their "culture" is somehow equal. Am I the only one who has the guts to say this? ? Come on someone else, agree or disagree.
