MOSTLY IMAGINED "GRIEVANCES"
K E T writes > It's odd though, that the time that Sir Apirana Ngata translated the Maori version of the treaty back into English (1920s), it said the same as the English version. The chiefs that signed it KNEW that to which they were signing up principally the ceding of overall sovereignty to the Crown white still retaining their property rights etc. as full British citizens under the Rule of Law. Ngata was close to the events of 1840, and a fluent, native speak of 19th Century Reo Maori, and therefore eminently qualified to make such an analysis.
It was only later that the vague nature of all unwritten languages has been used to form a translation of convenience for those wishing to extort money from the State for mostly imagined "grievances" from the past.
Sovereignty WAS ceded absolutely to the Crown in 1840, and those that argue otherwise are basing their argument on a deliberately false foundation. The social disruption cause by those activities are evident around us, in an increasing level of racial and social disharmony, and the increase in criminal behaviour that always result from such. The cure is obvious, but sadly it is also anathema to the PC legislators. Equality of citizenship for all is what it's all about, but advocating that gets on branded a racist. The illogic of that position escapes the PC brigade, but sadly it is they that are in power at the moment.
The final outcome will not be pretty.....
