CRAGGY RANGE TRACK / TE MATA PEAK
M B writes > To be quite clear, the land that has the track on is not part of the land donated by the Chambers brothers.
The track is on private land down the eastern side of Te Mata Peak.
This woman descendant of the people who donated the land is telling the person who subsequently bought the property next door what he can and cannot do with his land.
No evidence has been put forward to show that the area was wahi tapu.
The original Maori owners who sold the land to John Chambers never mentioned anything about any wahi tapu sacred area and appeared more interested in a sale than in wahi tapu concerns.
This whole affair is a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of engaging with tribalists.
