A FUTURE OF PEACE AND PROSPERITY
G L says > There is a presumption that arrival date implies necessary rights into the future, rights beyond that which others, who arrived several hundred years after, do not have, thus the society has a legal structure skewed in favor of those who arrived first.
Human history establishes that in all societies where some group disadvantaged, they eventually reject the disadvantage, and if not able to be done peaceably, then it is done violently. Seeking people 'suck it up' is begging for a society within which social violence is the norm within say, 2 generations.
We need think beyond today, having regard for the living circumstances of our great grandchildren. The only way to build a peaceful, fair society is to begin with the rules of that society falling equally on all people.
It is Maoridom who need grow up and face the future, that is they are merely one cultural group among many, and they are far from the biggest. There will be no social stability into the future with any group having rights beyond that of others, especially when the group favored is in the cultural minority.
Each person must decide whether they want a society in the future of peace and prosperity, or one of tension and potential violence over racial bias.
For example, the Maori seats must go, there can be no Maori wards, no preferential ownership of foreshore, no preferential demand over language, etc.
We either seek a society grounded on the idea of all people equal, or we do not.
If not then we are choosing a society riven with racial tension into the future.
