VANITY SPENDING, NOT RESPONSIBLE GOVERNANCE
R M writes > I see that Auckland council has added $67 in 'targeted rates' to the rates bill for the new food scraps service. Even if you put your food on your own compost heap you have to pay. I wonder what the council will do with all the money they collect for a service they don't provide - a nice Christmas lunch for staff perhaps.
Our council, under the dictatorial rule of our Mayor Phil Goof, are totally irresponsible in their spending. Not only do we have extra amounts added to our already inflated rates bills, but we have to pay a sizable extra on our weekly fuel bill because "our city is broke", yet Goof wants to spend another $1,000,000 on just looking at proposals for a maori statue on maori land at the entrance of our harbour (owned by a maori trust that has assets in excess of a billion dollars), to be followed by an unknown number of millions when the construction phase starts. This is vanity spending, not responsible governance.
