THE WORLD A DIFFERENT PLACE IN 1840
W E writes > Back in the days when the Waitangi Treaty was written and signed by the 500+ Maori chiefs ( 1840), the world was a different place.
Slavery, infanticide, inter-tribal warring etc was current, without the technological advances and developed infrastructures that were subsequently built and are in use today.
I say the terms and conditions outlined in the Treaty in 1840 had a different set of values than they do in 2000+. Times change yet the document hasn't been revised to show this. So isn't it about time to consider revising this document?
Next point, the people who signed the treaty then, they were 100% Maori from the 1800's where as today the majority Maori population would be lucky to have 20/40% original Maori DNA. This fact means that the treaty is being interpreted by a different people and in a different era.
So Kiwis is it not a good time to demand that the Waitangi Treaty is either finalized or revised?
Options; 1) A Full & Final settlement is made between both parties, signed off and a full set of accounts made available to all Kiwis by 2020. 2) The Treaty goes through a revision reflecting the change from the original "conditions" as outlined above.
It's one of the two folks.
