DEMOCRACY OR DICTATORSHIP?
P R writes > This morning I hear on the News that Te Reo will be compulsory in schools by 2025 both in primary and secondary schools. When you consider Maori or should I rephrase that to part wannabe Maori make up at the most 14.5% of the population how can a group this small dictate to the majority of New Zealanders?
Te Reo is only spoken by a small portion of this 14.5% and is only spoken in New Zealand so how is forcing the children of this country to learn it going to benefit them? Currently, they are being taught a sanitised version of New Zealand history with the parts that reflect badly on Maori being removed from the textbooks by the education department of our PC government.
Teaching our children, the truth about New Zealand history would do more help than forcing a European version of a language that did not exist until a missionary took the time to write it down.
In a democracy, citizen have the right to decide on what their children will or will not study at school but in a dictatorship, that right is removed. Currently, it is looking more and more that this country no longer is a democracy and is now a dictatorship when a government can force its citizens to learn a language against their will. A language that has no benefit to those learning it outside New Zealand.
When is the silent majority going to wake up and tell this minority that enough is enough? New Zealand is made up of a very diverse range of nationalities all of who pass on their native language and customs to their children why do Maori not do the same. Is it because most of them do not speak their own language or are they too lazy and want the schools to do it for them?
All cultures have the right to educate their children in their heritage, their customs and language and most do but it is only Maori that wants to force theirs on everyone else regardless. Today is the beginning of Maori language week and all we will hear is our TV presenters speaking in pigeon Maori and all the names on our weather reports in Maori when are we going to have an English week and have the Maori TV channels all speaking English or is that a step too far?
New Zealand will fast turn into a third world country if the government continues to pander to the minority. When are these politicians going to grow some gonads and declare everyone to be New Zealanders and put an end to this racism that is currently rife in this country?
