MAORI SEATS & ALL BLACKS
W A writes > In the early days, politics was like the All Blacks.
The Maori representation was poor. Hence the Maori All Blacks were created.
But in today's environment, Maoris are well represented in both rugby and in politics.
The All Blacks have a good proportion of Maoris in their team, and these guys are good players. They weren't selected because of their ethnic race. They were selected because of their ability. And I applaud this.
Therefore I don't believe the Maori All Blacks have a place in New Zealand today.
It is the same with politics. 15% of NZ is acknowledged as being Maori, and both the major parties have elected and list members of Maori ancestry.
There is no need for Maori seats now in New Zealand, and they should be abolished.
