TRIBAL vs DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM
R M writes > In a TRIBAL SYSTEM, you are a Chief or a "servant" to the Chief - the Chief is there by birthright or physical conquest of the previous one.
In a DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM it does not matter of whom you are born - everyone has the opportunity to get rich or to lead, but NOT everyone gets off their butts to earn it. Some of our greatest leaders in both politics and finance started off in poverty - but they earned their final positions by very hard work and very long hours.
The two systems are so different that there is NO WAY that the two can work in the same arena together.
You can still have tribalism within iwi, and in some instances it should be encouraged to preserve culture and customs, BUT THAT SHOULD NOT IMPACT ON GOVERNANCE OF ALL in any way.
In democracy there CANNOT be ANY factor, real or implied, that is affected by race, religion or birth status.
