IWI ASKS TO CLOSE THAMES COASTLINES TO PROTECT SHELLFISH FROM SUMMER 'ONSLAUGHT' In order to protect a diminishing marine life from an upcoming summer "onslaught", a Hauraki iwi have asked to close two coastlines to harvesting. The proposal focuses on the Te Mātā and Waipatukahu (Tapu) coasts, north of the Thames township. According to the request, the area has been the subject of a temporary closure before, in 1998, as part of a wider Thames Coast closure...... www.stuff.co.nz/environment/300025538/iwi-asks-to-close-thames-coastlines-to-protect-shellfish-from-summer-onslaught
