HOW THE SPECTRE OF LEGAL ACTION LOOMED OVER AN ABORTED PLAN TO EXTEND THE CAMPBELL ISLAND MARINE SANCTUARY The Government was threatened with court action to stop it extending a marine sanctuary around Campbell Island/Moutere Ihupuku, the most southerly of New Zealand's outlying islands. Stuff revealed in June that the Government rejected advice to expand the sanctuary following pressure from the commercial fishing industry and Ngāi Tahu. Now, documents released under the Official Information Act show how Ngāi Tahu reversed its initial support for the extension.
