Wally Hicks in his caustic attack on the knowledgeable gentleman John Robinson (Sidestepping, letters14/1/21) asks for evidence of pre-European Maori infanticide. Hicks appears to blame colonisation for this abhorrent practise, which is not an unusual tactic for the leftist pro-Maori anti-colonist brigade.

I would want to see evidence."
He cited the fact Maori girls were sometimes killed because they were considered less useful than males. "If children were treated as sacred items, how do you explain female infanticide?" Moon said the report's reliance on oral histories and lullabies also raised doubts over its reliability..... tinyurl.com/y5vxvspc

During that time Maori totally or substantially jettisoned endemic practices of cannibalism, infanticide, sorcery, slavery and to a lesser extent, warfare. These were major reforms with economic consequences, at least with regard to slavery,..... tinyurl.com/y5seqldp
Since 2018 I have been waiting for Mr Hicks (BA (English Lit), Dip Drama, Dip Applied Arts (Visual & Writing), Cert Sustainable Rural Development) to point to evidence of his claim that Dr Muriel Newman (NZCPR) and Hobson’s Pledge used the the term ˜daughter slaughter“ to date nothing?
