BLATANT RACISM AT NELSON MARLBOROUGH HEALTH
The Nelson - Marlborough District Health Board (DHB) claim to be the biggest employer in the region.
As at July 2021 Nelson Marlborough District Health Board have an extensive list of staff vacancies ranging from administrative positions, to doctors, nurses and cleaning staff.
All job description items are headed in Te Reo with (English words in brackets)
For example: Me peheu ahau e tono ai ? (How do I apply ?)
At the conclusion of the job description the following words appear:
“Nelson marlborough Health strongly endorses Ti Tiriti o Waitangi.
We believe that to achieve equity in health outcomes for Maori we need a workforce reflective of the population it serves.
We strongly encourage applications from candidates who identify as Maori and we recruit for cultural competence.”
COMMENT
This policy of racial preference for (part) Maori candidates demonstrates that the Nelson Marlborough DHB have caved in to current political pressure by the promoters of He Pua Pua.
There is an urgent need for all institutions, both public and private, to restore democratic values, in particular where all citizens of New Zealand must be treated equally as New Zealanders or simply Kiwis.
Where the Treaty of Waitangi is being quoted as the basis for classification of citizenship by race, then the original (unmodified) version of Clause 3 the Treaty as drafted by Busby for Captain Hobson must be used:
“In return for cession of the Sovereignty to the Queen, the people of New Zealand shall be protected by the Queen of England and the rights and privileges of British subjects will be granted to them.”
The English text was translated by Henry and Edward Williams into the Ngapuhi dialect of the Maori language for the Maori Chiefs as follows:
“Hei wakaetanga mai hoki tenei mo to wakaaetanga ki te Kawatanga o te Kuini- Ka tia kina e te Kuini o Ingarani nga tangata Maori, katoa o Nu Tirani ka takua ki ratoa nga tikanga katoa rite tahi ki ana mea ki nga tangata o Ingarani.”
Note. Hobson insisted that no Chief should sign the Treaty if he was unsure of it’s meaning.
More than 500 Maori Chiefs ultimately signed the Treaty.
Also the Chiefs agreed that the name of New Zealand was Nu Tirani in the Maori language. There was no reference to Aotearoa, which was a name coined by an unofficial English observer many years later. It was never a Maori name.
