MORE THAN $60,000 OF FUNDING ALLOCATED FOR TWO NEW PLYMOUTH MARAE RENOVATIONSNew Plymouth District Council’s iwi committee has agreed to funding of more than $60,000 for upgrades to two marae. At its meeting on Tuesday, Te Huinga Taumatua approved $55,095.21 to Manukorihi Pā for a replacement roof and four vented skylights with double glazing for the wharenui Te Ikaroa-a-Maui at Owae Marae. ‘’A new roof will ensure the wharenui is safe and warm and more importantly, the taonga such as the whakairo, tukutuku and kowhaiwhai are no longer at risk and can be maintained for future generations and the wider community,’’ a report to the committee said.
