P R writes > AOTEAROA CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE THIS IS?
On the TV, Radio, and in the Newspapers, we see and hear references to this mysterious place called Aotearoa but as yet I am unable to find it on any map.
Then I see groups using Aotearoa as part of their name is this because they are from a different country than the rest of us?
I live in New Zealand not this fictitious country and until we as a people decide to change our country's name then we will all continue to live in New Zealand.
My question is why does our media continue to refer to this country as Aotearoa when it is not nor never has been the name for New Zealand?
I watched a clip where a woman dressed up as a cat and spoke to her child’s school board. In her speech, she said she might look like a cat and might make sounds like a cat, but she could not be called anything other than a woman.
This analogy could also be used to describe this country, you can call it what you like but in the end, it is still New Zealand.
Manufacturing a fictitious name for a country and adopting it as the norm is the height of stupidity. If the name of New Zealand is going to change it will be because most of the population wants it to change.
The New Zealand brand name is recognised worldwide as one that can be trusted. The clip below is from the Trusted Brands New Zealand which states:
“A Trusted Brand enjoys international appeal, yet at the same time upholds a strong local connection. It has individual relevance for all its consumers, just about anywhere, and in any culture, trust is an emotion that fuels our decision whether we are conscious of it or not. It is that intangible quality that signals reliability and integrity. Whether it is a product or service, trust is what reassures us that we are making the right choice. Cost, quality, and desirability are all important factors for consumers. Yet it’s vital for a brand to stay true to its promises. While brands come in and out of vogue, those that capture our attention, maintain our confidence and win over our trust do so by holding fast to their core principles”.
My question is what recognition has Aotearoa or its brand got around the world – none so why refer to this country as Aotearoa? The name New Zealand has been long established, branded, and trusted worldwide so why change it?
It is time for our Government, Businesses, and Media to stop referring to this country as Aotearoa, the correct name is New Zealand UNTIL WE THE POPULATION, not the politicians decide to change it.
