WAITANGI TRIBUNAL FINDS CROWN BREACHED TREATY OBLIGATIONS IN DEALING WITH MĀORI HOMELESSNESS The Waitangi Tribunal has found the Crown has breached its Treaty obligation, in its inquiry into Māori homelessness. The Tribunal found the Crown formulated a definition of homelessness in 2009 without adequate consultation with Māori and took no action to address the rising levels of Māori homelessness. The Crown also formulated a Māori housing strategy but did not implement it and despite Māori reliance on social housing, their access to it was made harder.
