Most kids in CYFS care are MaoriMaori youth and children make up 88 per cent of the 317 kids in state care in Northland, and Te Tai Tokerau MP Kelvin Davis says it's because parents are not doing their job. The Northern Advocate asked Child Youth and Family for the number of children and youth in CYF care in the region, After a four-month wait, our enquiry revealed, of the 317 in CYF care, a whopping 279 identified as Maori - a number that did not shock Maori leaders. "It's parents not doing their part," said Mr Davis "They are failing in their roles and there needs to be an intensive intervention in the kids' lives." m.nzherald.co.nz/northern-advocate/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503450&objectid=11574218

I wonder what sort of "intense intervention" Kelvin Davis is suggesting.

Hard to know what Mr Davis has in mind, perhaps more taxpayers $$ sent to the parents More than likely, or more money for whanau ora, or yet another maori only government department.

Hard to know what Mr Davis has in mind, perhaps more taxpayers $$ sent to the parents More than likely, or more money for whanau ora, or yet another maori only government department. Speaking of Whanau Ora did you see this archive article? Whanau Ora fails MaoriWhanau Ora isn’t working and nor is it saving lives judging by tragic statistics released today by the Ministry of Health, says Labour’s Maori Development spokesperson Nanaia Mahuta. “Whanau Ora is the Maori Party’s flagship health programme, yet these newly released statics show Maori are still suffering the most in almost every health category. “It’s time for the Maori Party to admit Whanau Ora isn’t anchored on solid foundations and has failed to bring fresh health opportunities for Maori,” says Nanaia Mahuta..... www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PA1510/S00147/whanau-ora-fails-maori.htm
