FINAL RESULTS CONFIRM RISING MAORI AND PASIFIKA STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT"Across the board, achievement is up! In Year 11 NCEA Level 1 is 75.5 percent, up from 62.5 percent in 2008. Year 12 NCEA Level 2 achievement is 78.4 percent, up 2 percentage points on last year and 12 percentage points since 2008. As we have seen before, maori can get 41 of the 60 credits ( 20 of the 80 credits can be carried through from previous year....so 60 required to be earned for that year ) by doing BS marae based stuff....like making a cup of tea, setting the table, boiling a packet of saveloys etc). See the 'Videos & Images' thread on this website and look at "IS THIS A RACIAL IMBALANCE IN OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM?". If my kids got Year 12 NCEA by putting the knives and forks on a table, I would pursue the option of taking the school to court for a form of child abuse - makes the student think they have done well but in reality have become unemployable. basically lower the standard of the exams so most pass...the figures look good, the maori are happy, the unemployables think they are getting somewhere and everyone is slapping each others backs....until the child can not get a job because their achievements are in reality no more than what a 7 year old can do.
