THAT'S THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBALISM
Pre-colonisation Maori tribes were vicious conquerors who showed no mercy. (Think ISIS.)
Then in the 1860s they got conquered.
They lost land - as Sir George Grey had warned them they would if they breached the Treaty and waged war on the Queen.
(And as Sir Apirana Ngata acknowledged was fair enough - especially considering the awful fate that would have befallen the settlers had the tribes prevailed.)
And now their often-fractional part-descendants can't stop squealing about their great-grandfathers getting a comparatively mild dose of their own medicine.
That's the trouble with tribalism everywhere - empathy only for those in the tribe. Everyone else is an enemy to be plundered.
