SPECIAL TRIBAL PRIVILEGES – IN RESPONSE TO WILLIE JACKSON’S NONSENSE (Link below) Willie Jackson is out of touch if he thinks Maori are not receiving “special privileges”. Examples include 580 claims for all of our coastline (including Auckland’s Waitemata and Manukau Harbours, plus the Hauraki Gulf) - paid for by taxpayers while other Kiwis defending their seagoing rights have to pay all costs themselves. Some unjustified tribal demands in Auckland’s Unitary Plan had to be fought against by a few civic-minded individuals hiring lawyers and paying over $100,000 of after tax dollars. Auckland’s local Boards are now “encouraged” to develop Relationship Agreements with 19 Maori groups so they can be “prioritised as key governance stakeholders; engaged earlier than the general public; have greater levels of shared decision-making power than other stakeholders; be recognised as co-governors; and be empowered to propose the scope and extent of their own involvement”. Just a few examples of the “special privileges” being handed to tribal groups. - NEW ZEALAND CITIZEN www.localmatters.co.nz/news/16488-jackson-rebukes-brash-from-same-orewa-stage.html
