PACIFIC AND MĀORI MORE AFFECTED BY POVERTY-BASED ILLNESSHeath spending has been a major issue over the course of the election campaign, but some health organisations say it should be part of a bigger picture effort to tackle poverty. Rheumatic fever prevention has been a big focus of the Government's health strategy, with it having spent $65 million on a five-year prevention programme. However, the disease continues to disproportionately affect Māori and Pacific people.
