KELVIN DAVIS AND COMPULSORY MAORI LANGUAGE AT SCHOOLS
NO-ONE IS STOPPING THEM. Kelvin Davis says that “according to The Treaty of Waitangi, all Māori should have the right to learn their language.”
I ask what's stopping them? They could do it the way many others have and learn it in the home or elsewhere but I would protest loudly and clearly if they tried to teach it to my children in the schools.
There are far more important things for children to learn.
And where in the TOW does it say 'Maori' have the right to learn their language? Another reinvention obviously.
It's up to them to keep their language and no-one else. Certainly no-one is stopping them.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE, TOW, AND MAORI LANGUAGE So Kelvin Davis can you please enlighten me of where in the TOW has a reference that every child should learn te reo maori?
I’ve read it and there is no reference to language but if you can spin some changes in the words. That’s fine.
I have absolutely no objection to Maori learning to speak their language. As each tribe had their own.
Your te reo ( pigion maori) could be taught at home.. every other race in NZ teaches their native languages without fuss and in the home.
But more and more, most races want their children to speak the international language for all cultures.
English, this is the most important subject taught to young students in China. (slightly edited)
